The park is home to a large number of birds and mammals. Tourists visiting this park have a good chance to spot Lion, Leopard, Cheetah, Elephant, Rhino and other plains game such as Giraffe and Zebra. Because this park is less visited, the animals here tend to be less familiar with humans, something that makes a safari here a more authentic African experience.
For bird watchers, there are more than 430 recorded bird species in the park combined with Selous Reserve. Some of the birds one can spot here include the Giant Kingfishers, Pink-backed Pelicans, White-fronted Bee-eaters, African Skimmers, Ibises, Yellow-billed stork, Purple-crested Turaco, Malagasy squacco Heron, Fish Eagles, Hornbill and many more birds.

Itinerary

Pick up from your hotel in Dar Es Salaam and transfer to the domestic terminal to connect with light aircraft to the heart of Nyerere National Park. On arrival, met greet and transfer to Rufiji River Camp, located on a bend in the Rufiji River. After lunch you will enjoy a superb boat safari.

You will discover the Rufiji River by boat, encounter hippos and crocodiles in good numbers. Some 350 bird species have been recorded in the Nyerere National Park. These are typical of miombo woodlands, and the bird life supported by Rufiji swamplands is of particular interest.

After breakfast, another day in the Nyerere National Park. Choosing 2 safari activities: an incredible boat safari on the Rufiji River, game drive or walking safari with armed ranger. Lunch at the Camp. Dinner and overnight at Rufiji River Camp (B,L,D)
The Nyerere National Park is the largest in Africa, covering 54,600 square kilometer. The reserve gets its name from the hunter and explorer Frederick Courtney Selous. He was killed here during World War 1. Selous is famous for elephants. Other species commonly seen are lions, wild dogs, buffaloes, bushbuck, impalas, elands, baboons, zebras and greater kudus. It was originally set aside as a hunting area where animals are abundant but more shy then the Northern Parks. Excursions by 4x4 vehicle will permit you to have good photographic opportunities and the chance to explore different sections of vast park.

Your day will start with morning walking safari followed by breakfast. Lunch at the camp, afternoon game drive of the reserve. Dinner and overnight at Rufiji River camp (B,L,D)
Walking safari will give you a particularly intimate feel for the African wilds.
It starts in the morning with a guidance of an armed ranger, takes 2 hours before you meet the driver at the reserve gate. Walking safaris offer a good chance of seeing giraffe, zebra, elephant, and good birding.

After breakfast, day at leisure, after hot lunch at the camp you will be transferred to the airstrip for your flight to Zanzibar
On arrival, there will be a vehicle waiting to transfer you to Blue Bay Beach Resort, one of the finest resorts on the island.
